First prize in the Interior Design category is for the Atlantis Gastrobar in Barcelona by Arantxa Manrique Arquitectes. This small space is transformed into a stacked tile haven, joyfully embracing variety in shape, size, and colour to produce a powerfully simple interior that makes full use of its ceramic elements.

The winner in the Architecture category goes to Mesura Architects’ Studio for Casa Ter, a detached home in the La Bisbal area of Catalonia. The use of natural clay offers a touch of tradition which combines with a highly modern layout to create a unique space that merges beautifully with the environment.

The award for the Final Degree Project, a category for architecture students, goes to Andrea Puebla Yubero from CEU San Pablo University in Madrid. Designing a centre for unaccompanied under-age immigrants, Yubero incorporates ceramics in both ornate and functional ways. When it comes to function, the creation of an “impluvium building” goes beyond the traditional method of constructing a Mediterranean style patio to carry off excess rain water.

In addition to the first prizes, the judges awarded two special mentions in each category. For innovation in architecture, the Young Old House by Enrique Espinosa and Lys Villalba stood out for its bold new use of ceramic materials on a local, rural building. In the interior design category, La Roca’s Camper store by Tomás Alonso caught the judging panel’s eye for its intriguing volumetric effect.
