It’s All About the Book

If a picture is worth a thousand words, I wonder what a thick coffee table book encased in a stunning book cover is worth? Besides the obvious of worth of bringing joy into my life. Here are a few of our favorites, and the thought that went into why I love them.

I believe that the things you keep on your coffee table say a lot about who you are and where you’ve been, and maybe where you want to go. It’s played out right there for all the world (at least your guests) to see. So you might as well make it say something, make a statement. I love a coffee table book because they can be silly or pedantic, they open up a new world. They can cover a wide range of subjects or just focus on one little aspect of humanity. Books liven up a space and add depth. They add a pop of color and expand a room’s theme.

There’s been some brouhaha lately about organizing books. (Did you know? Really, there is.) Those who think that books should be organized by subject or author. The librarian in all of us. But there are others who have embraced decorating with books. I’ve seen a kitschy headboard made out of opened books, a frame made from books, and even bookshelves of books. But one trend I think is interesting is arranging books on shelves by color.

It’s cute and whimsical but I am not sure I could pull it off. But look at these pictures – it certainly lends some inspiration for a cold, snowy Saturday.

So what do you think? Can you judge a book by its cover? What’s the best way to arrange your collection of tomes?
