It may not be your typical impulse buy, but when a Glen Mills, Pennsylvania couple purchased a new hot tub, they decided to replace their aging deck along with it! The existing deck was a composite material that was approximately 15 years old and showing definite signs of age, including mold growth.
Brian Hunter, a deck contractor in Downingtown, PA, used TimberTech's Legacy Collection with the look of indoor flooring to create the perfect outdoor space for his customers and their new hot tub.
They decided to showcase the new hot tub within a more advanced decking material that offered the look of interior flooring.
"The old deck had reached the end of its useful life," explains contractor Brian Hunter of DeckPro in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. The homeowners bought the hot tub from Hunter and discussed repairing the existing deck as a quick fix versus replacing it. However, Hunter recommended doing it the right way from the start with a replacement deck using TimberTech's Legacy Collection, a capped wood composite which has an extra layer of protection to resist fading and staining.
The homeowners were attracted to TimberTech's Legacy Series, particularly for its hand-scraped look of indoor, tropical wood flooring. They chose Legacy's new Ashwood color for its resemblance to aged teak and paired it with stainless steel cable rail to open up the view to their beautifully landscaped yard and pool below. The 600 sq. ft. deck now includes the hot tub and a barbecue area for the ultimate backyard space. It also steps down to a patio for entertaining, which connects to the pool area. Hunter finished rebuilding the deck in roughly three weeks, whereas he said it would have taken longer with wood. "I've been using TimberTech almost exclusively for about five years now," says Hunter, noting he builds 40 to 50 decks a year. To further enhance the deck boards' indoor flooring look and speed of installation, he uses TimberTech's hidden-fastener system. "This superior system is so easy to work with," he said. "While other materials have hidden fastener systems, I don't think they're as technically sound." Hunter added, "The homeowners are extremely happy and are already planning to expand the deck to create a dry space over the patio."
