For all those couples out there (like me and my husband) who’ve taken to social media to try and figure out the best compromise between soft and firm, and which of the ever-daunting number of bed-in-a-box brands might be the right fit, Casper just unveiled what may be the Goldilocks of mattresses.

Called the Casper Wave, the new luxury end mattress just launched yesterday and claims to be a groundbreaking new design that incorporates waves of ergonomic technology to provide a deeper, more restorative sleep.

“Most mattresses are designed for the whole body, just layers of material from head to toe. Whereas the new Casper Wave mattress considers every part of the body. It’s our take on expanding the world of ergonomics,” says Jesse Manayan, Casper’s Design Director. “Your shoulders and your hips are the heaviest parts of your body, and if those parts aren’t supported properly then you start to sort of kink your spine.”

Dubbed the Natural Geometry System, Casper’s new patent-pending support system actively mirrors the natural shape of your body at 36 specific points for deeper, more restorative sleep by making things firmer through specific cuts and new layers of materials designed to target those specific areas of the body, like reducing pressure in the shoulder area through zones that provide added flexibility and fine-tuning.

According to a press release from the brand, the Casper Wave provides superior spinal alignment and has a new top layer of weightless, velvety foam that melts away for effortless comfort. For those who maybe felt the original Casper was perhaps too short compared to their traditional mattress and box spring, the new Wave is also taller, too.

From a design perspective, the entire product was conceptualized to “focus more on trying to express the actual experience of sleep versus the object that you sleep on…it’s quiet, peaceful, it evokes those feelings of floating,” Manayan says in the company’s launch video for Casper Wave, as he also compares the new top layer of the mattress to “cotton candy, it’s wonderful.”

Prices for the new, higher-end mattress start at $1000 for a Twin size up to $2,250 for a King or California King size mattress — nearly double the original Casper, which run from $550 for a Twin up to $1,150 for a King or California King. All Casper mattresses come with a 100-night sleep trial, free shipping and return shipping, and a best effort from the company to donate every returned mattress to charity.

One of the hottest trends in home goods over the last two years, online mattresses now comprise a $15B industry, with top contenders including Casper and Tuft & Needle, Purple, Leesa, and a few dozen more — some say as many as 35 brands vying for dominance. Casper, whose investors include Leonardo DiCaprio, certainly has millennials on lock, utilizing promotions like a traveling Napmobile in 2015 and $99 hotel rooms during this year’s SXSW Interactive conference in Austin, TX to grow its brand, plus built-in nap rooms for employees designed by Float Studio at their recently revamped NYC offices — and a new partnership with Target, which we reported on last month.
