Barriers between natural stone and ceramics in the tile sector have long since broken down. In Commissioning Creativity (11.45 to 12.30pm) Gary Drostle, one of the UK’s foremost mosaic artists and head of Drostle Public Arts, will examine the role of modern mosaics in contemporary architectural and landscape design. Based in London, Drostle and his dedicated team specialise in site-specific art, painted murals, floor and wall mosaics and mosaic sculptures. This world-class practice have produced may large scale commissions across the UK and overseas, and recently won an FCI Installation Award for its installation at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, California, USA.
