In Charleston, South Carolina, The Bee and Blossom Inn, historically known as the Fitch-Rivers House, was selected as the property for the 2020 Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s Designer Showhouse. The annual Showhouse, featuring dozens of Charleston’s most acclaimed interior designers, brings in thousands of visitors eager to discover what’s new, next, and trending in the world of interior design.

This year’s house, located in the heart of Charleston’s vibrant Radcliffeborough neighborhood, was built in 1883 and features several unique Victorian-era architectural details including curving piazzas, neoclassical columns, and wide windows to fill the home with ample amounts of natural light. The historical property was once owned by several prominent Charleston residents including Augustus Fitch and John Rivers before eventually becoming The Bee and Blossom Inn in 2019.

In January 2020, 26 skilled designers took their talents to the Inn to bring creative, modern elements to the home with the goal of creating an authentic and luxurious Lowcountry experience for all to enjoy. Garden State Tile partnered with Heidi Huddleston, CKD of Delicious Kitchens & Interiors to bring a unique look into the kitchen of the Inn.

Tucked at the back of the house, the kitchen also serves as a pass through to the courtyard of the property. With that in mind, Huddleston incorporated elements from Avignon in Provence, known for its Mediterranean Gardens. The kitchen walls were covered in the Bohemia Collection Lola Pattern Porcelain Tile from Garden State Tile. The hexagonal shape, reminiscent of a honeycomb pattern, is a subtle nod to the “Bee and Blossom” name of the inn.

“Garden State Tile is my ‘GO TO’ for innovative products” says Huddleston. “The knowledgeable staff at the Charleston showroom shines, and the vast assortment of products is on trend with plenty of classic options for timeless design solutions too.”

Huddleston chose the Bohemia Collection, a new product line from Garden State Tile, as a show-stopping statement accent to the otherwise quiet white cabinets and hardwood floors. “I was drawn immediately to the Bohemia collection for a few reasons, it had just been introduced, so that is always intriguing. It is fun to be a trend setter and incorporate the latest products – I really loved the six-sided hex shape!” said Huddleston. “I selected this particular tile from the collection due to the color and pattern. The Lola stood out for its bold and botanical pattern that felt a little more organic.”

The shades of gold, gray, and blue found in the tile are repeated throughout the sweet space – and are even included in a few honeybees painted on the ceiling of the kitchen. Other stand-out features of the kitchen include an eighteenth century French antique table and garden chairs that are situated to take advantage of the view in the courtyard just beyond the room. Accessories including the custom acrylic painted lucite tray, historic cutting boards from France, and vintage pots are combined to complement this sunny cuisine driven kitchen.
