More Homeowners Switch to Synthetic Turf Products that Look Like Any Natural Grass Lawn

Since the 70s, artificial grass has come a long way. Today, synthetic turf products feature grass blades that contain multiple shades of brown and green, and companies like Synthetic Grass Warehouse are currently able to supply turf products that look just like any natural grass lawn.

Due to this, more homeowners are switching to artificial grass. Even early adopters are upgrading to the latest versions of artificial grass in order to take full advantage of the improved realism.

In his 15 years in the turf industry, Craig Voyton, owner of SmartGrass, observed this to be a recurring trend.

Homeowners switch to turf because of the aesthetics. They want the perfect, natural grass look, but don't want the maintenance responsibilities that go along with it," he said. "The best selling products are the ones that are going to hold up, have great color, and work well with pets or kids.

Recently, SmartGrass installed 1,200 square feet of Synthetic Grass Warehouse's Diamond Pro Fescue as well as 250 square feet of Poly Putt 2-Tone in the Rancho Palos Verdes tiered yard. Diamond Pro Fescue includes dual shades of field and olive green tones complimented by a brown thatch for improved realism. Poly Putt 2-Tone 15' is the natural process of putting green turf that has been tested to replicate professional putting greens closely.

Voyton believes that the grass progression and its popularity happened merely because of the timing. "First we had the drought in California which was followed closely by the government rebates and benefits for switching," he said. "After a while, people want their green lawn back and the installers and homeowners are demanding more aesthetically pleasing products." Voyton observed numbers really started to go up about 8 years ago when turf changed and turned out to be a more advanced product.

I get clients from 8-10 years ago calling us and asking for an upgrade and we're happy to help, the switch is done much easier and at a lower cost to the homeowner because the foundation is already done from the previous turf installation.
