Name: Sibylle
Location: Berlin, Germany
Size: 1,076 square feet
Years lived in: 8 months; rented

Sibylle is at it again but this time in a different part of the map. We saw the first tour of her home in Montreal that was filled with her funky DIY style. Now that she has moved across the world to get back to her roots in Berlin, we are getting another peek into her fun and eclectic decor world.

Berlin is filled with history, street art, diversity, and creativity, all of which influence Sibylle’s style. When I asked her to describe her decor style she simply said “eclectic, modern, flea”. I think that describes her well. Her mix of styles and great finds creates a unique and homey abode that makes you want to hang out and investigate all the nooks and crannies. The incredible light, beautiful moldings, and high ceilings are what attracted her to this home, and they create a perfect backdrop for her work life.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: eclectic modern flea (is that a style? its a big mix and match)

Inspiration: I am inspired by the architecture of the space. This is a typical Berlin apartment built in 1913 with moldings, high ceilings and old wooden floors. I wanted to kind of keep the spirit but with some more color.

Favorite Element: The light! There are big windows in the living room/dining room, another two in the bedrooms. Since I have the 3rd floor, it’s flooded with light, all day long.

Biggest Challenge: The living/dining room. I am just still not really happy with the layout of the furniture or if I should maybe get another dining table.

What Friends Say: Can we do our photoshoot at your place?

Biggest Embarrassment: no big embarrassment, I love it here.

Proudest DIY: I would say my sofa, it was super ugly before I painted it and the bench in the hallway.

Best Advice: To always make sure your place has a good base, a lot of light, nice floors for example. This is not something you can easily change. And the rest comes with time. It is not necessary to always shop at Ikea or the high end design store downtown, there are tons of other options like Craigslist, flea markets etc., there is nothing a coat of fresh paint can’t do …

Thanks, Sibylle!
