Name: Ford and Hillary
Location: Houston, Texas

In 2011, when we were ready to buy a home, we chose a very affordable (ahem sketchy at the time) neighborhood knowing that things in the area were changing and it was only 2 miles from downtown Houston. We purchased a 1910-ish home that had been a rental for the last 20 years and paid $85,000 for it. It was a mess but had 10′ ceilings, 2 bathrooms and a nice size lot with a metal building on it where we could run our metal furniture and art fabrication business as we were not in a deed restricted area and Houston does not have zoning.

We had very little money to work with so we did almost all of the work ourselves. Ford is a former house builder and now runs and fabricates for our business and Hillary is a commercial interior designer with 18 years under her belt so we rolled up our sleeves and tackled almost every project ourselves.

Our style is warm modern with a touch of industrial. We are incredibly proud of backyard as it was nothing but dirt when we moved in as well as our amazing wood ceilings. We ripped down the gypsum board to expose the shiplap underneath and sanded it to even it out a bit.

We also love our kitchen. It was gutted to the studs and we built it back for less than $5000 including appliances.

We both work in the creative field and are inspired by just about everything.

Thanks, Ford & Hillary!
