Owens Corning Deploys Building Science Resources to Help Homebuilders

During the 2016 International Builders' Show® (IBS) Owens Corning Insulating Systems is establishing how a building materials manufacturer can collaborate with builders to achieve new standards for comfort, durability, affordability and efficiency in today’s home building.

Leveraging its building science expertise, Owens Corning is working hand-in-hand with builders to improve building practices and help them Turn Building Science into Building Genius™ – from high-end show homes like the 2016 New American Home® in Las Vegas to new home construction across the U.S. and Canada.

The customized collaboration between Owens Corning’s team of building scientists and the builder begins with an understanding of the builder’s specific design and performance goals. From there, Owens Corning works as an extension of the builder team to develop tailored building science tools and High Performance Building Systems that specifically address climate-driven construction variables including thermal, moisture and acoustical considerations.

“Owens Corning is deploying building science resources to help builders consistently, efficiently and profitably design, construct and sell high performance homes that affordably deliver whole-home comfort and durability,” said Todd Fister, vice president of strategic marketing, Insulation, Owens Corning. “Through these highly customized collaborations, Owens Corning is helping builders apply building science solutions that raise the performance standard for our industry and enable better and more profitable building.”

The New American Home

Owens Corning’s deep commitment to help builders turn building science into building genius was brought to life in the 2016 edition of The New American Home® in Las Vegas. For the past year, Owens Corning collaborated with Element Design Build to incorporate building science solutions into the vision and craftsmanship of the house to achieve exceptional performance results without compromise to the interior or exterior aesthetic.

“Throughout each of the build phases on The New American Home, Owens Corning provided real-time consultation, hands-on training, and customized solutions to help us reach the highest standards for performance and comfort,” said Josh Anderson, owner, Element Design Build. “Owens Corning’s sophisticated building science knowledge and expertise allowed us to challenge conventional build practices and incorporate leading building science solutions to effectively address desert climate conditions for year-round comfort in every room of the house.”

From its inception The New American Home build team set ambitious goals to use the latest sustainable building materials, products, energy efficiencies and construction methods to reduce its impact on the environment and help provide the highest quality of life for the occupants. Rather than spray polyurethane foam (SPF), several Owens Corning insulation products were specified in the walls, roof and foundation to help achieve the sustainable and performance goals for the home.

While The New American Home is a show home, Owens Corning is partnering with builders throughout the country who are building in a wide variety of climates, regions and communities. Builders such as Shea Homes (Calif.), Ron Davis Custom Homes (Texas), Palo Duro Homes (New Mexico), Quail Homes (Portland, Ore.) and Thrive Home Builders, formerly New Town Builders, (Denver) have worked closely with Owens Corning to create high performing homes that translate into highly differentiated buyer benefits.
