Prior to moving into this space, Sage and Gracie were actually living in the basement below. During their time in the basement apartment, they had limited light and space so they used bright colors and decor to give the space life.

The Story

When they eventually moved upstairs to 2,331 square feet and an abundance of light, they had to take on a whole new approach. They painted the walls white, paired down their decor, and let the space speak for itself.

The house was built in 1908 and Gracie’s parents bought it in 1986 (she was actually born in the house)! It was a boarding house for over forty years and has had many renovations over the years. Sage and Gracie started renting the house last April and share the house with four other roommates. When they first moved in, it was actually difficult to fill all the rooms because they were coming from a small apartment, but over the last year they’ve started to accumulate enough to make the rooms feel cozy.

Although Sage and Gracie are just twenty-one and twenty-two years old, the house has come to life through their projects and hands-on approach (largely possible due to Gracie’s background in construction and home renovation). Their bedroom has French windows on three sides and they share it with their two cats, Polly, seven years old, and Paris, three months old. While they both love getting new home goods, they’re always conscious of their budget and have become very resourceful in their decor. “If we can’t make it, we scour Craigslist and spruce it up. 99% of all the art in our house was made by us or by kids.”
