Gorgeous Geometry

Los Angeles based Tracey Reinberg is the brains behind Kismet Tile. Since 1997 she has been using her talents to design exciting patterns for fabrics and wall coverings, working with big names in the furnishing industry. After inspiration from the Spanish Revival architecture’s use of cement encaustic tile during her childhood in San Antonio, her gift for design was eventually translated onto her first line of cement tiles.

Now Kismet Tile has an ever expanding range of patterns, made all the more expansive by their customisable nature. They also have a stunning selection of textured relief ceramic tiles.

Following the standard style of repeated motifs, the cement tile designs feature predominantly geometric forms and bold colours. The tiles mostly measure 8″ by 8″, although the larger design of ALBA and the hexagonal tiles have differing sizes.

The ceramic tiles are created using a traditional cuerda-seca (dry cord) technique, causing depressions in the surface which later form the pattern. The Kismet ceramic tiles are highly intricate, showcasing a range of geometric forms.

Neutrals as well as bright vibrant hues are used to help the contrast stand out and the cuerda-seca results in a gorgeous hand-crafted finish and artisanal look. The glazes used give a unique visual effect and add texture and life to the tiles.
