Another vigilante tiler has come to Tile Addict’s attention, and this time they are much closer to home! Southampton has seen a burst of mosaic activity in the last few years thanks to the mind and creativity of Will Rosie. In an attempt to make his mark and brighten up his beloved city he has taken to one of the greatest art forms known to man – ceramics.
Using images and characters from popular culture, including The Simpsons, Mr Men, and comic books, he mostly creates small, colourful artworks to place around town and surprise passers-by, although he has also produced some large scale installations and commissions.
The whimsical artist accurately describes the use of mosaics as one of the more “classy” forms of street-art, each of which takes him about a week to complete from start to finish. He has also introduced his daughter and students to the wonderful world of guerilla street art, proudly welcoming the additional creations across social media.
He choses locations that are likely to have many visitors and posts hints and clues to their whereabouts on his various sites. The most recent of which is a series on Hampshire wildlife created along with his students. More clues are being added each day!
