Woodbury, N.Y.—Stanton Carpet Corporation, a leading supplier of carpet, area rugs and LVP, has agreed to acquire substantially all the assets of Cavan Carpets. Cavan serves the higher-end residential market with wool-based, hand-loomed products touting unique textures.

Father and son founders of Cavan, Dan and Daniel McGovern, have joined Stanton as vice presidents of regional sales for Cavan with continued involvement in many aspects of the emerging brand, according to the company.

“Cavan has done a fantastic job since its inception in 2012,” said Jonathan Cohen, CEO of Stanton Carpet. “The Cavan product line complements Stanton’s existing hand-loomed products while offering an excellent platform for extended growth in the category. The McGovern’s are experts in this arena, and we look forward to partnering with them once again.”

Cavan will continue to operate as a stand-alone brand within the Stanton portfolio through its agent-based sales team that will continue reporting directly to the McGovern’s. Stanton said it will assume all operational responsibilities and immediately begin relocating Cavan’s inventory from Warminster, Pa., to Stanton’s 227,000-square-foot distribution, customer service and fabrication facility in Calhoun, Ga. Stanton said it expects to resume Cavan shipments beginning June 3-4.

“Stanton has successfully grown market demand and further developed the vision for Antrim, a brand they acquired from us in 2007,” Dan McGovern said. “This deal will enable Cavan to expedite its growth strategies and thrive within Stanton’s resources. We look forward to a great long-term future together.”

What’s more, Cavan will be incorporated into Stantonb2b.com for rug fabrication through Stanton’s “Create A Rug” option and Stanton will be checking stock, reserving stock, placing carpet and swatch orders among many other functions online, according to the company. Cavan has a new custom program called “Pinnacle,” which was spearheaded internally by Daniel McGovern and Erin Arkin. According to Stanton, Arkin agreed to stay on through July to help transition Cavan’s custom business to Stanton’s team and provide general support.

“We look forward to working with Erin through July and the McGoverns on a long-term basis to grow the Cavan business and overall hand-loomed category,” Cohen said. “This new partnership is a win-win as the Cavan product line complements Stanton’s existing hand-loomed products while we work to develop even more amazing hand-loomed carpets and rugs for you to market and make strong margins.

The acquisition builds on Stanton’s market position as a leader in the premium carpet niche, utilizing its account base, logistics, product development capabilities and outstanding customer service, which have been the platform for growth at Stanton, the company said. Cavan will show separately but across from Stanton at Surfaces in Feb 2022.
