Calhoun, Ga.—Mannington Commercial’s Open Range, a hard-working rubber plank flooring collection, was named a Nightingale Awards winner at the 2022 Healthcare Design Expo and Conference. Open Range received the Gold designation in the flooring hard surfaces category. The Nightingale awards are presented by Healthcare Design magazine in partnership with the Healthcare Design Conference and Expo and The Center for Health Design.

This year’s awards were evaluated by a panel of 14 jurors, including architects, interior designers, healthcare providers, facility managers and consultants. According to show organizers, jurors assessed products based on aesthetics and innovation; durability, functionality and quality; certifications and standards; environmental sustainability; and other criteria. Open Range was one of 19 total products honored for its contribution to the healthcare built environment.

“Flooring plays a significant role in the healing environment, directly impacting the safety and wellness of both patients and caregivers,” said Al Boulogne, vice president of commercial carpet and rubber, Mannington Commercial. “Open Range was specifically designed with the healthcare setting in mind, so it’s extremely satisfying to receive this recognition from the healthcare industry and a jury of industry experts. We are honored to receive this award and are excited to make this collection available to the healthcare industry.”

Mannington said Open Range’s unique marbled aesthetic offers incredibly realistic details that allow healthcare designers to bring a touch of natural beauty into patient rooms, lobbies, waiting rooms and other areas.

As an innovative rubber product, Mannington said Open Range offers exceptional comfort underfoot to support the needs of caregivers during long shifts and contributes to outstanding mobility when rolling hospital beds or other heavy equipment. Additionally, it provides superior traction and slip resistance that can help reduce trips and falls. Easy to clean and high performing, Open Range also brings greater acoustical benefits than other hard surface floorings, making it an ideal solution for healthcare environments, according to the company.

Open Range was developed using Mannington’s Commercial’s thermoset rubber formula, which enables rubber flooring products to retain their color, resist indentation and cracking and offer superior scratch resistance. Further lowering maintenance and environmental impact, the formula features a self-migrating wax that reduces toxic chemical use by creating a flooring product that never needs to be stripped or waxed, according to the company. All products in the collection come in a 6.25 x 42 plank format and 1/8 thickness. Open Range is available in 12 warm and neutral tones.

Open Range contains 4% rapidly renewable resource content by total product weight and is FloorScore Certified. It is also EPD- and HPD-certified and Red List Free. Open Range offers a limited 10-year commercial warranty and a limited 10-year wear warranty.
