Calhoun, Ga.—Durkan, the hospitality flooring manufacturer, has partnered with longtime collaborator Virginia Langley to design print carpet tile exclusively for its PDI (Precision Dye Injection) platform. The state-of-the-art PDI tile program, which launched last summer, features proprietary high-resolution pattern design technology in 12 colors for customization, with the added wear-and-maintenance advantages of modular soft flooring.

“We are looking forward to this new chapter in our relationship with Virginia and getting to celebrate her incredible talents through our latest product platform,” said Mark Page, senior director of creative design and development for Durkan. “The opportunities for a more random approach to pattern and installation presented through PDI tile transforms any space into an interchangeable design landscape. We are excited to see how Virginia uses her talents and the category’s boundless parameters to create some truly imaginative patterns.”

Durkan’s patented Synthesis process brings PDI styles to life by layering pattern and texture to provide exceptional 3D image quality and clarity. A unique layering effect brings tremendous depth and richness to carpet tile and broadloom designs, the company said.

From within her Coachella Valley studio, Langley said she is currently designing her newest collection for Durkan that leverages all of the Georgia-based manufacturer’s soft flooring categories. A symbiosis of modern and dynamic textures will be created for PDI tile as the collection’s primary focus. The multi-category portfolio will launch this fall and incorporates motifs designed to provide one-of-a-kind experiences for guests in public spaces including hotels, casinos, airports, senior living facilities and other hospitality interiors.

“Over the years we have built a great relationship and I am honored to be a part of the Durkan team,” said Langley. “They have established a well-respected name in the hospitality industry, and the quality of the products is superior. I am delighted to have an exclusive agreement with such a prestigious company and excited to have my designs now available on the new PDI tile platform.”

Durkan’s PDI tile program allows hospitality designers to create enduring pattern combinations in easy-to-install 12 x 36 and 24 x 24 formats. Rotation and replacement of tiles can be easily managed locally, since the randomness of the designs is more desirable and engaging than exact pattern matching.

“Building on Durkan’s heritage of innovation, the tile format enables our clients to have print installations with even more flexibility, ease of replacement and easy access to the subfloor with minimal disruption,” Page added. “It also creates an opportunity for reduction in installation waste so that more of the product ends up on the floor instead of in the landfill.”
