Bandera, Texas—Larry Scott, a veteran of the hardwood flooring and installation industry, passed away on Sept. 11, 2020. He was 69.

Scott was born in Wick, W.V., on Feb. 18, 1951, and grew up in Ohio. He moved to Texas in the late ’60s where he spent the rest of his life. He started his flooring career in the ’70s as a hardwood flooring installer for French Brown Floors in Dallas.

After learning and mastering the wood flooring installation trade, he branched off and started a wood floor contracting and maintenance company, Specialty Maintenance, based in Dallas. After many years of building a very successful business, Scott sold his share of the company to his partner.

In 1993, Scott moved his family to the Texas Hill Country community of Bandera, where he designed and built custom homes with his partner and wife, Elizabeth, along with his friend Barry Ehrmann, an architect.

In 1999, Scott was hired by Brooklyn, N.Y.-based DriTac Adhesives, where he spent a long and successful career. While at DriTac, he held several positions, including: Southwest regional sales; director of field technical services; and vice president, technical services. He retired from the flooring industry in 2018 and returned to his homebuilding business in Bandera.

Chuck Hall, former senior vice president of sales for DriTac Flooring Products, who was also a close personal friend to Scott, recalled his time working with him. “Larry made friends everywhere he went. He was one of the most admired, well-liked, trusted and universally respected people in the flooring industry. His industry friends—too many to count—included distributors, flooring contractors, retailers and even competitors.”

Scott was an outstanding teacher and wood flooring installation trainer. Observers said he had a special gift of relating to his audience and making them feel comfortable. His legacy will live on through the many installers, contractors and sales associates he taught and mentored throughout the years. Moreover, Scott was a devoted family man, a wonderful person and friend and a loyal colleague.

Scott leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth, and three sons: Chris, Nicholas and Erik. All donations in his memory can be made to Bandera United Methodist Church, Bandera, Texas, www.banderaumc.org care of Youth Ministries, a group in which Larry was actively involved.
