This year the winner in the Architecture category has gone to the PICHarchitects_Pich-Aguilera and 2BMFG Arquitectes for their work on the Santa Creu & Sant Pau Hospital Research Centre in Barcelona. The project aimed to be low-impact in as many ways as possible, specifically achieving energy efficiency, and blending into its surroundings. Encasing the building is a web of ceramic elements that effects sunlight levels and mimics the nearby historic buildings.

Runners-up included the renovation of the ancient pottery factory Montalván into a Restaurant and Hotel in Seville by AF6 Arquitectura, who produced a ceramic patchwork exterior full of exciting colours and patterns that create a showstopping facade, as well as the Museum to house the natural collections of the University of Alicante by COR Asociados Arquitectos. For this project, providing the ideal space to conserve the museum’s collections was paramount and has been achieved alongside a bright and spacious interior, and a ceramic facade intended as a modern, but highly appropriate finish.
