Los Angeles—Bentley Mills, California’s largest commercial carpet manufacturer, has appointed Holly Holton as global director of sustainability. Holton, a seasoned industry professional who joined Bentley in 2009 as an account executive, will now focus on engaging industry partners on Bentley’s evolving sustainability progress and continued initiatives.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Holly into her new Bentley role,” said Jay Brown, Bentley president and chief operating officer. “As a company dedicated to exceeding California’s sustainability standards, Bentley will continue to design products to lower our chemicals of concern and carbon footprint. Holly will strengthen how Bentley externalizes our advancements in renewable energy, bio-based material and recycled content.”

Holton has worked in the commercial carpet industry for more than two decades, including as a sustainability manager at Mohawk Group. She also played a key role in guiding the process for Bentley’s LEED EB-OM Gold certification of its carpet mill, as well as Cradle to Cradle product certification. Holton’s depth of experiences related to sustainability as well as in sales informs her understanding of architecture and designs greatest sustainability concerns, according to Bentley. In her new role, the company said, Holton combines her customer-focused expertise and her passion for the environment and climate resolution.

“I’m looking forward to sharing the sustainability work Bentley has done and will continue to do,” Holton said, who is based in Portland, Ore. “Part of the reason I’ve been with Bentley for more than 13 years is their commitment to not only the environment but also the communities we serve. We’ve long been a leader in sustainability and I’m looking forward to playing a more active role in shaping and elevating our efforts and also championing our mission with industry partners.”

Holton is the newest addition to Bentley’s growing sustainable operations team. Emily Chu, sustainability and environmental manager, joined the team in September 2021 and is primarily focused on operational environmental initiatives as well as product certifications.

As a carbon neutral company that is aiming to be carbon negative by 2030, Bentley is dedicated to designing products, seeking solutions and aligning with partners that lower its chemicals of concern and carbon footprint, while addressing the intersection of climate change and economic and social inequities. Manufactured in the only LEED EB-OM Gold certified carpet mill, all of Bentley’s products are PVC free, Cradle to Cradle certified and meet the Red List requirements for the Living Building Challenge.
