comfort core technologyWaregem, Belgium—Adding to its already impressive portfolio, Unilin Technologies and Pelican Creations Home developed Comfort Core technology, which has already been utilized by many suppliers. According to the company, Comfort Core technology integrates a soft “comfort” layer underneath the top layer(s) of resilient products in order to upgrade the sound characteristics of the floor while also improving the ergonomics and walking comfort.

“You can almost compare it to walking on carpet because the sound is much better than walking on traditional SPC,” said Floris Koopmans, sales director, Unilin Technologies. “It’s not only more sustainable and recyclable, but it’s also an upgrade in performance.”

Jiangsu Success recently started the production of the ergonomic technology, and Wego International Floors and Goodfellow Inc. have also rolled out collections with this technology for the U.S. and Canadian markets.

According to Richard Yao, general manager of Jiangsu Success, the engineers from Unilin Technology customized the tool layout to adapt to the special build up. “We had a lot of support onsite to make sure the correct profiling was possible for the mass production stage,” Yao said.

The technology is incorporated into the Sound Pro collection of Wego International Floors. According to the company, the collection will be distributed in the U.S. for multi-residential construction projects by Michael Halebian & Co., because of its sound dampening properties. One of the largest flooring distributors in Canada, Goodfellow Inc., said it will be rolling out its own collection at the end of the year to its extensive dealer network across the country.

“This technology is gaining more and more interest from the market and it is now implemented by large flooring companies,” Koopmans added. “Other flooring manufacturers and distributors that want to start implementing this ergonomic technology into their resilient products can reach out to us.”
