biobasedAltamonte Springs, Fla.—Kährs introduced a new hybrid, PVC-free, biobased flooring for use in both residential and commercial spaces: the Aware Collection, flooring with an authentic wood appearance with durability comparable to that of a traditional vinyl floor.

The introduction of the Aware Collection aligns with Kährs’ sustainability strategy, which includes steps to continuously reduce the company’s environmental footprint, including sourcing innovative, new material. With beautiful visuals, high quality and excellent sustainability properties, the Kährs Aware Collection offers a new flooring solution to the modern, environmentally conscious customer, providing comfort with no compromises on design and sustainability. Aware’s durable design withstands the demands of family-life as well as the wear and tear of commercial applications with the style, beauty and feel of a wood floor.

“We are excited to expand our portfolio by adding a new PVC-free flooring option that furthers our sustainability initiative,” said Sean Brennan, president Kährs Americas. “The new Aware Collection is a hybrid floor that offers realistic wood look plank designs with many of the durability properties you would find in a typical LVT and a cork backing that makes it very comfortable to walk on.”

Kährs Aware Collection contains a range of wood design planks in nine different, vibrant colors, inspired by national parks from around the world. The planks are made from biobased materials such as HDF from recycled wood, recycled wine cork material and natural fibers and fillers. The floor is completely free from PVC as well as low emission certified, promoting good indoor air quality.

From an installation perspective, the click joint on both the short and long side of the planks creates a simple and clean two-way installation. Thanks to the Wear Class 33 Certification, the floors are suitable for homes as well as commercial applications, including stores, hotels and restaurants.
