Artecnica’s Playful Yorky Light

The Los Angeles-based design house Artecnica has introduced a new light fixture that looks almost like a child’s toy. Yorky, designed by New York-based Icelandic designer Hlynur Atlason, has a whimsical shape, but it will sit, stand on a surface or hang from its “leash” on the wall to provide soft ambient light.

“When conceiving of this design, I examined how certain shapes and proportions are perceived as cute,” Atlason says. “How youth is pure and simple in appearance and age is more detailed. Based on these principles, I designed this light for both children and adults to involve in imaginative play, where Yorky is a part of the story, not the complete story.”

The light is made from silicone and comes in white, pink, and yellow.
