HomeNewsObituary: Roger Tintner, CFA

Roger Tintner, former president of the Chicago Floorcovering Association (CFA), passed away in March 2021 due to complications from COVID-19.

“We were all saddened by the news of the recent and untimely passing last month of Roger Tintner,” the group said in an announcement. “Roger succumbed to COVID-19 while wintering in Florida.”

Tintner was the CFA president in 1984 and a longtime member of the board. The group said his contributions to the CFA were countless.

Professionally, Tintner was one of the most knowledgeable people in the industry regarding carpet cushion. He also proved to be a most adept salesman and a true leader, the CFA said.

In the mid-1970s, he began his career in the cushion business at General Felt Industries and was there for over 15 years. From there, he led the cushion division of Carpet Cushion and Supplies for over 20 years. The company said he enjoyed very close relationships with all of the most influential suppliers and customers in the flooring business and certainly in the Chicago area.

The group said Tintner was famous for his big personality and was always the most dapper person in the room. He was kind, generous had a genuine concern for his customers and friends—always there for anyone that needed anything, the CFA said.

He will be sorely missed for his great fun stories about the industry, his loyal appreciation for his customers and his love of the flooring business, the company added.

He leaves behind his wife Sharon, his children and five grandchildren. Tintner was very proud to have his son, Marc, follow him into the industry. He is a regional vice president at Shaw.

The CFA said the family is planning to hold a memorial and celebration of Roger’s life in coming months.
