Charleston, S.C.—William M. Bird announced the retirement of John Allen, vice president of sales, effective Dec. 31. Allen, a 46-year veteran of the floor covering industry, served more than half that time with William M. Bird.

Allen began his career with William M. Bird in 1997 as a builder sales manager, before being promoted to sales manager of the South Region and product director in 2005. He was ultimately named vice president of sales in 2013. During his long tenure with the company, he managed and grew relationships with Bird’s largest manufacturing partners—an achievement that has played a key role in the company’s continuous expansion in the Southeast. Through his leadership, the Bird sales team consistently exceeded goals, cultivated lasting customer relationships and set new standards for excellence in customer service.

“John played to win and he earned the respect of the entire company,” said Gene Corvino, president, William M. Bird. “His adherence to our core values was obvious in everything he did. None of what the team accomplished could have been done without John’s constant reminder to all of us: ‘We win as a team.’”
