2023Every two weeks, FCNews seeks out flooring retailers across the country to offer their advice on hot topics of the day. This week we asked: What will be your major areas of interest in 2023?

Here are their responses:

“Our emphasis will be to reduce unnecessary inventory, minimize expenses, focus more on digital marketing and get the staff up to date on our system training.”

—Kevin Murray, Murray Floor & Window Coverings Billings, Mont.

“Our major area of emphasis will be the customer experience. We are going to make a renewed effort to make sure each customer experience is the best it can be. We want to make sure the before, during and after sales experience meets each customer’s obtainable expectation.”

—Jon Dauenhauer, Carpet World Bismarck Bismarck, N.D.

“Coming off our best year ever, there are several things we are going to work on in 2023. We’re going to be more goal oriented. We’re going to talk about goals, set them, write them down and work to achieve them. We’re going to have more team meetings and try to work together more as a team identifying issues, resolving issues and finding more ways to drive business.”

—Penny Carnino, Grigsby’s Carpet, Tile & Hardwood Tulsa, Okla.

“Our emphasis will be to focus on selling better products and increasing gross profit by having fewer mistakes.”

—Brian McCarver, Brian’s Flooring & Design Birmingham, Ala.

“Our focus in 2023 will be ensuring that we provide the best service to each and every customer. We fully expect that the expected downturn will lead to fewer customers, and we want to make certain we capitalize on every opportunity to set ourselves apart from the competition. Selection and pricing will take care of itself but service is the difference.”

—John Bretzloff, Barefoot Flooring Castle Hayne, N.C.
