July 2015 is Gold Notes‘ seventh anniversary month. What a long, fun trip it’s been! Much has changed in my life since starting my blog in July 2008, and I’ve shared most of it with you in my weekly posts. Here are seven highlights to toast the occasion: Happy birthday, Gold Notes! Interior design has never been about sticking with one trend, but more about a “cocktail” of trends – mixing the most innovative with the traditional. We recently stopped by a home where the cement tile was in the process of being installed by Vahe Alvazian of Artisan Tile and Stone Works in Playa del Rey, California. Alvazian knows what he’s talking about. He installed Granada Tile’s Fez cement tiles at Intelligensia Coffee Shop in Silver Lake in Los Angeles, which is still looking great and inspiring Instagram photographs 10 years later.

Illustrating the article is a project we’ve featured before and that was also featured on Apartment Therapy where our concrete tiles are the star. Located in the neighborhood of Hansaviertel Berlin, Germany, the Courtyard House by bfs design is part of a larger residential complex which consists of five dwellings, initially built in 1957. Upgrading this home without affecting its architecture heritage was the main challenge for the architects. During the process, “all original building parts found, were preserved and carefully processed and refurbished, whilst ill-fitting fixtures from the seventies and eighties were dismantled.
