Tidy – chapter 4: design a life with love

Making Tile Modern

Her laundry is done and, truth be told, she tossed out half of it after reading in the Tidy book that you should only keep the things you love. When she read those words, her heart simultaneously leapt and sank.

Quaint English Cottage Gets a Modern Kitchen Addition

Freshome Design & Architecture Magazine

When kitchen designer Alex Saint of Kitchen Architecture approached the project of adding a modern kitchen to an 18th-century thatched-roof cottage in Cheshire, England, he did so with the property’s historic integrity in mind. Instead of attempting to replicate the home’s century-old brickwork, the architect decided to build a glassed-in kitchen addition that would minimize structural changes and preserve the home’s character.

Mistery Leak, "Do You Have One?"

How to Floor Tile

A small bath remodel required a new vanity, toilet and shower rebuild. I noticed over a few days that there was a soft spot on the wall below the hot water inlet valve under the vanity. But, since I could not see any water pooling I didn't pay that much attention to it. "But still", I was concerned. So on a hunch, I cut off the chrome bezel and cut some sheet rock away from the valve and felt the pipe around the connection where it had been soldered for many years.

The Tools of an Architect

Life of an Architect

Architects are lucky. Once you get past the few architects that complain disproportionately loud for the entire profession, you will discover that just about anyone can be an architect and have a role to play in the design and building process. Not everyone will be a designer, and not everyone will be a project manager. Some architects will stand in front of clients and communicate a vision, and other architects will stay in the office and make sure the details are watertight.
