Bringing a Modern Country Look to an Old Farmhouse Bathroom

Architectural Ceramics

Florida, August 2016 – Before and afters are such a fun part of design, reminiscing the old and celebrating the new. A country farmhouse with a vintage guest bathroom had an abundance of character, but not a lot of space to work with! It started out very dark, and the tile and fixtures were beyond outdated. The bathroom even had a raised fiberglass shower, pull chain toilet, and clawfoot tub.

Designing Elevations

Life of an Architect

Which came first – the chicken or the egg? Everyone knows the correct answer is the egg … and by “egg” I mean “floor plans” I posted a sketch last week of an elevation study and was asked a simple question: do I design the floor plans first, or the elevations? The correct answer is that the floor plans get developed first, but there is still a lot of give and take when it comes time to develop the exterior elevations.
