The Floor Covering News Fantasy Football for a Cause league closed this year with six teams: Cali, Consolidated Carpet, Mannington, Floor Covering News, Lions Floor and Salesmaster. All are playing for worthy causes (see listing below).

Each team pledged several thousand dollars for a total of $30,000, which will be dispensed as follows:

• $8,000 to the first-place winner’s cause

• $5,000 to the second-place winner’s cause

• $3,000 to the third-place winner’s cause

• $2,000 to the fourth-place winner’s charity

• $1,250 to the fifth-place winner’s cause; and

• $1,000 to the sixth-place winner’s charity

In addition, 13 weekly prizes of $750 (for a total of $9,750) will be awarded to the players’ selected charities.

Following are snapshots of each cause represented by the league’s participants. FCNews and all teams encourage contributions from our readers to any charity that resonates with them.

Nick Pasquale Foundation

The Nick Pasquale Foundation is a non-profit created to carry on the legacy of Nick Pasquale, whose life tragically ended from a car accident in 2013. As the dream to play college football at UCLA was taken from him, The Nick Pasquale Foundation uses its monetary donations to support student athletes who display characteristics that mirror that of Pasquale: leadership, drive and determination. Along with its donations, the foundation hosts events such as the NPF Golf Tournament and a silent auction.

The organization and its donors share the vision of keeping children safe from abuse, neglect and homelessness as well as enabling productive lives for children and adults with developmental, emotional and physical disabilities. Friends of St. Dominic’s is guided by the faith, determination and generosity of others who believe there is a better tomorrow for every child.

The Compassion Express Foundation was founded by Dustin Aaronson, FCNews associate publisher and advertising sales director, to make a difference in the lives of others in the communities of Long Island and the five boroughs. The foundation offers various programs such as community outreach, homeless outreach and holiday-Adopt-A-Family as well as the Brittany Vilar Scholarship. In October of 2014, Brittany Vilar was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer and for the six years that followed she fostered 11 children. This scholarship recognizes qualities in others that Brittany possesses: strength, courage, resilience, faith and hope. Most recently, the Compassion Express Foundation distributed cold-weather clothing items and toiletry kits to those in need.

Floor Covering Industry Foundation (FCIF)

footballThe Floor Covering Industry Foundation (FCIF) was founded in 1981 and provides medical care, direct grants and other basic needs for those who have worked in the floor covering industry that are affected by severe disabilities, injuries or other life-altering medical crises. The grants provided by the non-profit aid in various expenses including: rent/mortgage, food, transportation, testing, hospital stays, medical care/supplies, utility bills, doctor visits, physical therapy and more. Most recently, FCIF hosted its 40th Anniversary Gala at the Rainbow Room in New York City, raising over $250,000 for those in need.

The Gary Sinise Foundation was founded by Gary Sinise, actor and 40-year advocate for the Armed Forces. The charity provides various programs dedicated to active duty, veterans, first responders and their families. The R.I.S.E program specifically builds specially adapted “smart homes” for those who were wounded serving their country. Not only are the homes customized to the needs of each family, but they are mortgage free. Additionally, the program provides home modifications, adapted vehicles and mobility devices to injured, ill, wounded and/or aging individuals.

Through research and action, the society has contributed to a 26% decrease in the overall U.S. cancer death rate since 1991, which means the ACS has helped avoid nearly 2.4 million cancer deaths during that time.
