annual conventionOrlando, Fla.—Chris McKee, Certified Flooring Installers Association (CFI) president, announced the details of the group’s upcoming Annual Convention & Expo running Aug. 2-4 here at Rosen Shingle Creek.

According to CFI, the full schedule presents a unique opportunity for reconnecting and networking with peers, sharing best practices and learning in practical workshops and general sessions led by industry leaders and experts. The company said the flagship event is the “must attend” event for both experienced and early-career professionals and marks the 29th anniversary of the formation of CFI. The theme, “Elevate,” is centered around the vision and passion carried through CFI from its founding, which aims to bring awareness to quality flooring installation.

“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of CFI and to continue building on the legacy that has kept this organization at the forefront of the installation profession for almost three decades,” McKee said. “Convention is where the community of CFI is celebrated, but also a time where we look forward with excitement to the opportunities the future provides to the association and its members. This convention will carry on the tradition of CFI, with the same fire burning to make a difference.”

Bob Gillespie, CFI’s first certified installer and current advisory board member, said CFI is excited and committed to establishing CFI as an organization for installation professionals throughout the world. “With new leadership and training programs, the future of CFI looks strong,” Gillepsie said.

This year’s show opens with the Pre-Convention Regional Installation Competition on Sunday, July 31 and Monday, Aug. 1. The inaugural regional competitions in Orlando, St. Louis and San Leandro are part of the National Installer of the Year Competition at TISE 2023. Applicants are now being accepted.

The convention kicks off with the opening session on Tuesday, Aug. 2, with keynote speakers Scott Humphrey, WFCA CEO, and Jim Aaron, FCEF executive director. The afternoon includes in-depth training and hands-on workshops. According to the CFI, sessions include hand sewing, create custom inset, moisture, heat welding and public speaking. The day will wrap up with the welcome reception.

Wednesday, Aug. 3, begins with the annual golf tournament at Shingle Creek Golf Club. For non-golfers, there will be round table discussions from FCEF and Women in Floorcovering, hosted by Jen Zurn. A lineup of engaging speakers will present a wide range of topics in the afternoon, including lunch with Roland, Steps, Insurance, Ask an Attorney and Retailers and Installers—a panel led by Chris McKee, Dean Howell, Don Roberts, Typhannie Watson, Marquis Wright and Alaina Walters. Wednesday will wrap up with the dinner and awards ceremony.

According to CFI, the last day of the show will include a general session, generations next and the exhibit hall, where attendees will have the opportunity to speak with industry suppliers about the latest technology, innovations and products. The show will wrap up with the closing and fun night.

The CFI said its Annual Convention & Expo is open to members and nonmembers and full-event and single-day passes are available. A room block with discounted rates is locked in for a limited time at the Rosen Shingle Creek.
