Retailers React: Which business segment is best?

HomeFeatured PostRetailers React: Which business segment is best?

artificial intelligenceEvery two weeks, FCNews seeks out flooring retailers across the country to offer their advice on hot topics of the day. This week we asked: Which segment of your business is faring best?

Here are their responses:

“Residential replacement/remodel and custom homes are fueling our business. We also are seeing an uptick in Main Street commercial.”

—Don Cantor, Lake Chelan Interiors Lake Chelan, Wash.

“We are 90% residential remodel, but surprisingly our builders that were projecting softer numbers are doing better than expected. We have picked up a few more builders because we can offer appliances along with flooring. There is more than one reason to come into our stores, so whatever brings them in gives us the opportunity to plant the seed for a future sale.”

—Eric Mondragon, R.C. Willey Salt Lake City

“Residential replacement. Homeowners still have equity in their homes and they continue to invest in them, particularly given the challenges with selling and moving.”

—Adam Joss, The Vertical Connection Carpet One Columbia, Md.

“Commercial and Main Street is the highest generator of business. Why? The businesses that closed their doors and had their people work from home [during the pandemic] are bringing them back into the office space.”

—Cathy Buchanan, Independent Carpet One Floor & Home Westland, Mich.

“Commercial business has carried the torch for us thus far in 2023. We have been fortunate to partner with some busy contractors in many of our marketplaces so far this year.”

—Eric Langan, Carpetland USA Davenport, Iowa
