Invista, long associated with the venerable Stainmaster brand, has sold the brand, along with certain associated assets, to Lowe’s, effective April 21, 2021. The purchase includes all brand-related intellectual property from its parent company, Invista, and all related trademarks and sub-brands. The purchase price was not disclosed.

With this acquisition, Lowe’s aims to build on its decade-long exclusive position as the only national home improvement retailer to carry Stainmaster carpet. Moreover, the acquisition, according to management, is a step in delivering Lowe’s Total Home strategy by elevating its assortment and providing consumers with the products and brands they trust for every project across the entire home.

“Today’s announcement adds the most trusted and recognized brand in carpet to our lineup of private brands,” said Marvin Ellison, Lowe’s president and CEO. “At a time when the home has never been more important, customers are increasingly looking for high-performance products to meet their evolving needs and expectations. We see great potential to leverage and extend the Stainmaster brand into other product areas to further serve our customers and deliver on our Total Home strategy.”

Despite the sale, Invista will continue to make and sell nylon 6,6 carpet fiber to support the flooring markets, including residential, commercial and rugs. Invista will also retain ownership of its world-leading nylon 6,6 intermediates business, its global nylon polymer and fiber portfolio, and widely recognized brands, including Antron and Cordura.
