An Electric Lock That Allows You to Leave the Keys at Home

Electronic door locks aren’t new, but this new device from SimpliciKey takes the concept to a completely different level. Offering convenience and (hopefully) security, SimpliciKey is a remote control electronic deadbolt that gives users the option of unlocking or locking their home with a key fob or with a traditional key. The backlit, alphanumeric wireless keypad can accommodate up to 16 user codes that can be changed at any time, and the encrypted remote has a range of up to 50 feet. It fits a standard opening, requires no hardwiring, and features a reversible lock system for both right and left hand doors. From a design standpoint, the device is not all that elegant, and it cost about $250 plus another $30 for the remote. Still, there is something intriguing about unlocking a deadbolt like a car door. The device comes in three finishes, but the only one worth considering is the satin nickel.
