Atlas Homewares Gives Its Modern Avalon House Numbers a Facelift

Most (if not all) modern architects are anal retentive, but they fall into different camps: There are the architects who favor the Tom Kundig approach in which the mundane elements of a building—rafters or the inner workings of door locks, say—are celebrated beautifully; then there’s the master of minimalism John Pawson, who takes the dictum “less is more very seriously.

Well, rejoice you Pawson-style modernists—Atlas Homewares has redesigned its very affordable ($19) Atlas Avalon numbers just for you. The old numbers, which we wrote about here are cool and inexpensive (compared to the real deal at Design Within Reach), but the company fabricated them the characters with visible mounting screws. The new pieces offer a flush-faced, hidden-screw installation, so your project will look just as clean as Pawson’s (sort of). Numbers come in brushed nickel and aged bronze. www.atlashomewares.com.
