Inspired by the work of Italian architect Angelo Mangiarotti who pioneered the use of gravity joints in the late 70’s, James DeWulf has designed a table with what he says is a thinner top and stronger joint. DeWulf made the Leaning Coffee Table from 7,000 PSI carbon fiber-reinforced concrete. As a result, the 1-inch-thick top is as strong as 9 inches of ordinary concrete, which permits this extreme cantilever that can hold up to 55 pounds. It measures 56 inches long, 22 inches wide, and 18 inches tall and comes in natural tone, light grey, and charcoal grey. As an example of high design, the table is a little inelegant; however, as a piece of technical derring-do it’s awesome.
