Brick Inspirations

JG Kitchens

'I’ve been thinking a lot about bricks lately. That’s partly because my late mother‘s birthday falls at the end of July, which always reminds me of the Dutch Colonial home she brought us up in. And I’m working on a kitchen/family room project with a white painted brick fireplace wall and hearth. But, mainly, bricks have been on my mind so much this summer because they’ve also been on my back for so many hours and miles!

Decorative Tile in Commercial Design

Tile Talk

'By Bill Buyok , Avente Tile. While I prefer the quiet residential neighborhoods for my morning walks in Los Angeles, crossing commercial swaths and busy streets can''t be avoided in California''s most populous city with a population of 3.8 million people. Surprisingly, I''ve discovered some stunning uses of decorative tile in commercial design on the storefronts and facades of many buildings that pay homage to this state''s romance with tile during the early 1900s.

Limitless Shades of Gray

The Perfect Bath

'I think it’s official: gray is the color of the moment, especially in the bath and kitchen. As a lover of gray, I understand and support this trend. Gray is an effortless color for me; I wear it all the time and paint with it whenever possible. My favorite gray is a bit abstract; it is neither blue, white nor lavender but something in between that works well with white, black, an array of stones and rich wood tones.

Behind the Surface

What Causes a Damp Basement? How to Fix Water Problems at Foundations
