Huntsville, Ala.—Matthew Syler, founder of the Bella Flooring Group and the owner of the firm that bears his name, passed away on June 6. He was just 42 years old.

Professionally, Syler left a significant impact on the flooring industry throughout his career. Aside from establishing Bella Flooring Group, he was also known for his contributions while working at Beaulieu. He was one of the most knowledgeable and passionate individuals in the flooring industry, and he worked tirelessly to help others succeed. In his personal life, Syler’s love for his family was evident to all who knew him well. He was a proud and devoted husband and father, garnering admiration from everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

“Matthew’s enthusiasm for flooring knew no bounds, and he could talk endlessly about it,” said Broadlume in a written statement. “He was one of the most knowledgeable and passionate individuals in the flooring industry. Throughout his time with us, he trained hundreds, if not thousands, of flooring professionals, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. Matthew was truly a remarkable man, and his untimely departure has left a void in our community.”

Others who knew Syler or worked alongside him offered fond recollections. Paul Dominie, current president of the Bella Flooring Group, knew Syler for 25 years. “As an original Bella Flooring Group member, we grew our business and learned tons about partnerships, people and product. I appreciate what he did to help me develop into the person I am today. Matt will be missed.”

Jamann Stepp, vice president of the hard surfaces division of The Dixie Group, also reflected on his relationship with Syler. “Over the last five years, Matthew and I cultivated a strong friendship that went well beyond business. I am grateful and blessed to have been given the opportunity to share that friendship with Matthew. He will be greatly missed by all.”

Pami Bhullar, VP of business development at The Dixie Group, concurred. “Matt was an amazing human being, great friend and contributor to the flooring industry and human growth. Everyone who had a chance to be in his company benefitted.”

A man of deep faith, Syler devoted himself to supporting mission work in Haiti. He will be remembered as a good man, a faithful husband, a dedicated father, servant to others and a hard-working entrepreneur.
