artificial intelligenceEvery two weeks, FCNews seeks out flooring retailers across the country to offer their advice on hot topics of the day. This week, we asked: Do you have procedures in place to prevent a cyberattack?

Here are their responses:

“Several years ago, we discontinued the use of onsite servers and moved our data to various cloud services. Most cloud services have redundancies in place—such as multiple levels of antivirus and malware protections—to greatly reduce the chance of a successful cyberattack.”

—Bobby Merideth Flooring America OKC Oklahoma City

“We have not taken any significant measures yet but do plan to take advantage of some special training offered by our data hosting service.”

—Tim Short JB Short Carpet One Southern Pines, N.C.

“We have installed extra firewalls and held trainings to educate our employees as to what to look for. Unfortunately, the hackers are getting craftier as well.”

—Mike Foulk Foulk’s Flooring America Meadville, Pa.

“We have implemented training such as Wells Fargo financing training/employee login review every 90 days, only taking credit card payments by emailing/texting a secure link for customers to pay instead of over the phone and have insurance coverage if we do have a breach. Another thing we do is have redundant back up of our management software so we can hopefully have a few locations to retrieve information.”

—Carlton Billingsley Floors and More Benton, Ark.

“We have ramped up IT’s software initiatives and versed our staff on examining inbound emails for malicious content.”

—Kyal Wilson Nampa Floors & Interiors Nampa, Idaho
