NWFA launches new engineered wood program

Engineered woodSt. Louis, Miss.—The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) has launched the NWFA Engineered Wood Flooring Refinishable Program, which identifies these wood products with wear layers thick enough to be sanded and refinished. The program certifies real engineered wood floors to aid manufacturers, distributors, specifiers and end-users in their decision-making processes.

“The launch of the NWFA’s voluntary certification program is timely, as the marketplace is fraught with confusion about real wood flooring products,” said Michael Martin, president and CEO, NWFA. “Multi-layered constructions and improved visuals currently make it challenging to tell fake wood flooring products from real wood. This program helps identify real wood flooring that can be refinished and will add value to a home.”

According to the NWFA, the ability to refinish a wood floor extends its service life, making it a more-sustainable, multi-generational product. The color and sheen can be updated during the remodeling process or to suit the taste of a new homeowner.

All types of engineered wood flooring products are eligible to apply to carry the NWFA’s refinishable logo, according to the association.
