Retailers React: How is residential remodel/replacement faring?

HomeFeatured PostRetailers React: How is residential remodel/replacement faring?

residential remodelEvery two weeks, FCNews seeks out flooring retailers across the country to offer their advice on hot topics of the day. This week we asked: How is the residential remodel/replacement market, as it relates to your business, faring?

Here are their responses:

That market for us continues to be strong. People are still willing to invest in their homes and invest in higher-end goods.

– Sam Locher, A.J. Rose Carpets & Flooring, Burlington, Mass.

With the outside pressures of inflation and day-to-day living expenses, groceries, gas, etc., we have seen a definite decline in residential replacement projects. Main street and heavy commercial remain strong however.

– Mike Foulk, Foulk’s Flooring America, Meadville, Pa.

Currently there is a slowdown in some traffic, not uncommon for this early part of the summer with so many traveling on vacations. We are hoping for it to pick back up after the 4th of July.

– Penny Carnino, Grigsby’s Carpet Tile & Hardwood, Tulsa, Okla.

The home remodel/replacement market is strong, albeit lacking any historical trends at this time last year. Overall, it’s up for 2022 in double-digit fashion and we project that increase will gain steam in the coming quarters, but retail is not currently mimicking the traditional ebbs and flows we tend to see year over year.

– Kyal Wilson, Tampa Floors & Interiors, Nampa, Idaho

We have seen a slight slowdown over the last two months as opposed to this time last year. Still good traffic overall, just not overwhelming. Fingers crossed this keeps up for the next two quarters, although there is reason for doubt.

– Ben Case, The Carpet Collection, Lockport, N.Y.
