Tacobout Trencadis

In the Roma district of Mexico City stunning examples of Art Deco architecture and design can be found all over. But for one tiny taco eatery the playful nature of the area is represented in an different and unusual way. A random stylised scattering of fractured ceramics wash across the floor and wall of rough and ready taqueria Los Alexis.

The mass trencadis is paired with a bare industrial original ceiling and a vibrant green curved bar to match the green grout. At 15sq metres Los Alexis doesn’t have much room to play with but the simple yet busy walls and floor visually alter the dimensions, distracting from the size and emphasising the character.

Designers of the space RA! specifically chose the material to give the small taqueria a big personality and big impact, helping it stand out amongst the nearby retail premises. Fresh, informal, and charming, Los Alexis’ trencadis soul invites you in for a bite and inspires.
