Name: Alexis & Nathaniel
Location: Portland, OR

We bought our home in 2007 because we loved the SW Portland neighborhood of Multnomah Village and though the house is small – just under 800 square feet. we loved (still love) that it felt larger because of all of the windows and natural light.

We have worked really hard to figure out ways for a family of 3 (we have a 6 year old named Finnegan) to live really comfortably in a house of this size, including lots of built-ins and shelves, shelves, shelves! Everything has its place. The open living room, dining, and kitchen (with vaulted ceiling ) really helps to make the space feel larger while still feeling cozy. We are most proud of the kitchen which we designed and Nathaniel installed pretty much all by himself. I love how everything feels really integrated into the space.

Our style, I would say, has a modern cottage feeling. We love mid century modern furniture, which I have been collecting for a while, but in a house of this size you only have room for a few key pieces at a time.

My husband is a fine art painter and graphic designer and we LOVE art, so we also have lots of his (and others) art around the house. My favorite part of our house has to be the built in Hi-Fi cabinet that he built; you wouldn’t know it, but behind the wooden door is an air-conditioning unit!

Thanks, Alexis & Nathaniel !
