The “square root” technique

The “square root” technique that Mexican designer Carla Fernández pioneered uses squares and rectangles folded to shape every item, and minimizes the use of formal fasteners, relying instead on ties and simple fastenings. In our Square Root Tailoring workshop as part of Design Culture Mexico at Heath SF, students will create a piece of clothing under Carla’s guidance: learn how to tailor it using Mexican traditions, make it, take it home, and wear it with pride.Take a look at what’s in store and watch the video of her workshop at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum last year here. Sign up for all workshops here by Friday, March 20.
