When the dust cleared and all the numbers were counted, total industry sales fell just short of 2019’s numbers at $22.951 billion, a decline of 0.5%. off in volume.

Forbes recently reported that independent flooring retailers are in decline. Between 2016 and 2019 the number of independent stores dropped from over 11,000 to 10,699. Floor and Decor went from just 69 stores in 2017 to 199 locations as of April 2023. Meanwhile, national chains are adding stores. Mostly on price.
