You can’t think of Mexican tile without picturing colorful, hand-painted designs. Deep, rich colors are then painted over the white. The beauty in handmade or hand-painted tile is that the glaze and embellishments will vary in color. Talavera hand-painted tile, used on the risers of a staircase, adds instant drama.

That was so 2016. In 2016, PANTONE’s Color of the Year was Rose Quartz 13-1520. This bathroom renovation, shown right, illustrates the Focal Point palette well because of its use of warm ceramic tile on the accent wall, and cool marble tile on the sides of the tub and the floors. Remember Rose Quartz?

Florida, August 2016 – Before and afters are such a fun part of design, reminiscing the old and celebrating the new. However, I did refinish the tub and paint the outside the same color as the vanity. You’ll notice the paint is gorgeous, and yes, my clothes are all stained now. and it can serve as a shower and tub.

Here are some other things I did in my very small bath that made it feel really fresh for 2016: I bought new clear plastic containers at Bed Bath & Beyond for my medicine cabinet. I also got out the scrub brush and worked on a decades-old mosaic floor to brighten the grout. Even though the floor is heated, I plan to buy a bath rug.
