As consumers were forced to cancel lavish vacations and were stuck at home staring at old decors, they pivoted to home improvements as the avenue to spend their money. When the dust cleared and all the numbers were counted, total industry sales fell just short of 2019’s numbers at $22.951 billion, a decline of 0.5%. We’ll take it.

As was predicted this time last year, consumption of ceramic tile in 2019 is lower than that of the previous year. The downward trend began in 2018, and the residential ceramic business slowed for the first three quarters of 2019. Raj Shah, president, MSI, noted a slowdown in new home sales as well.
