Charles Spada is the reigning Francophile of the Boston Design Center. He fell instantly in love with a 1652 hunting lodge (mostly one reads about this kind of story in fiction) with giant sequoia trees, enormous handsome iron gates, an allee of old apple trees, light filled rooms, warm oak floors and squeaky doors.

Last week I attended the awards celebration of New England Chapter Institute of Classical Architecture and Art held at the State House in Boston, a fabulous Charles Bulfinch building built in 1798 with later additions. It is sited close to the summit of the south side of Beacon Hill overlooking Boston Common and the Back Bay.

I was recently asked what I would do in my master bath if there was not room for both a tub and a shower. And my rationale was confirmed the other night when I stayed in a hotel in Boston where I had to shower in the tub. Would I consider showering in the tub? The answer is a resounding NO. Of course, that is just my opinion.
