During the first half of the eighth century CE, near the ancient city of Jericho, in what is now called the Palestinian Territories near Israel, magnificent mosaic floors were created for the audience hall and the baths (hammam) of a palace, now known as "Hisham's Palace." A total of 30 mosaic designs cover a space of about 30 meters square. These mosaic floors are unique in design and color, showing influences from Roman, Byzantine and Persian civilizations.
