This tile installation idea comes to us from David Schneider, who chose to use Granada Tile in his own home near Seattle. The materials and the palette are by and large simple and neutral—pale walls and blond wood, for the most part, in a house that suggests Craftsman architecture. Tile photo, David Schneider.

While most of the judges are not architecturally trained, even they could spot a design that had scale issues. We both work at large architectural practices on international projects, but enjoy the challenge of designing small, community-based projects. I enjoy all kinds of architectural competitions, be it large or small.
