US-based studio The Construction Zone converted a former horse barn in Phoenix, Arizona, into a contemporary home. Outdoor spaces for entertaining, a barbecue area and a swimming pool add to the welcoming feel of the property. A charming rocky pathway built between the cacti leads the way to the guest house nearby.

Part modern, part rustic, this colorful home in Melbourne, Australia is our dose of inspiration for the day. The aim of the project was to expand outdoor areas by embracing the laneway in an unconventional and playful manner. “By opening the doors to the back, it extends their property and allows light and air to pour in.”

In September of last year, I found myself in Scottsdale, Arizona, attending the Sub-Zero and Wolf Kitchen Design Contest Summit and Gala.
